Hebrew Book Week 2009
Every year at springtime, typically in June, Israel Hebrew Book Week is celebrated with outdoor book-fair all across Israel in over 50 towns and cities. June 10 – 20 2009, Israel
All Israeli publishers present the best of Israeli, Jewish and worldwide literature. Israel is ranked high in the rate of book readers and therefore the Hebrew Book Week gains much attention, including wide coverage by the local TV and radio channels. This week offers generous discounts and bargains in all outdoor fairs and bookstores throughout the country.
The Hebrew Book Week started in Tel-Aviv back in 1926. It was a one-day event and took place along the Rothchild Boulevard. In 1961 it became an annual springtime country-wide event.
This year, the Hebrew Book Fair was celebrated in Tel-Aviv in conjunction with the city’s 100 year Anniversary. Dozens of publishers, hundreds of authors and tens of thousands of titles now fill Rabin Square. A special Café was built for the occasion in the square, hosting the best authors reading poetry, novels and stories.
