Star of David – Few Facts About this Jewish Symbol

1. According to some traditions, this six-point star symbol decorated David’s warriors’ shields (before becoming King David), and hence the name David Shield.2. The Star of David appears in the earliest synagogues, such as the one in Kefar Nachum (Near Tiberius in the north of Israel).

3. Christians and Muslims associate this symbol with King Solomon and with mystical forces.

4. The Zionist movement adopted the symbol as well, and in 1879 a blue Star of David was placed in center of the flag.

5. During the Holocaust the Nazis used a yellow “Jewish Star” to distinguish and humiliate Jews.

6. In October 1948, the Star of David was accepted as an official symbol of the new State of Israel and was set on its flag.

7. In Kabala the Star of David signifies the number seven (the six poles plus the center), which has religious significance in Judaism.
